Biogas fan
Biogas fans are, just as the name suggests, a collective name for the fans used in areas where it is extremely important that no gas leaks out of the process, such as e.g. during biogas production or biogas combustion.
The fans have different areas of use but all cope with the tough requirements set in biogas applications.
Description
What are Biogas fans?
Renewable energy sources are something that is becoming more relevant every day.
Biogas is an alternative and here FläktComp Sweden can contribute with high-quality fans that ensure that the biogas is handled correctly.
Biogas fans are a type of gas-tight radial fan, adapted for use in biogas environments where the demands on materials and performance are very high.
The fans are usually delivered as a complete unit consisting of fan wheel, motor, cover and vibration feet.
In order to choose the right biogas fan, one should start from operating data and process design, as well as whether there are any special requirements.

Where are biogas fans used?
Biogas fans are, just as the name suggests, a collective name for the fans used in areas where it is extremely important that no gas leaks out of the process, such as e.g. during biogas production or biogas combustion.
The fans have different areas of use, but all need to cope with the tough requirements set in the application.
Some examples of areas of use for biogas fans are:
- Feed fan for gas engine/generator.
- Feed fan for torch in biogas production.
- Support air fan for biogas tanks.
Depending on requirements, the design of the biogas fans can be completely adapted to the customer’s needs. With the right dimensioning and material selection, a biogas fan spins problem-free for many years.

About our Biogas fans
Unplanned downtime due to e.g. fan failure has a negative impact on both costs and system safety.
It is only systems in operation that make money and if the produced biogas cannot be used due to a fault and has to be burned, the operator quickly loses a lot of money.
Our fans from Meidinger can handle the high demands placed on biogas production and will make your everyday life easier.
Meidinger has extensive experience in pumping aggressive gases and vapors.
By choosing suitable materials for the cover, impeller and welding material, a high-quality and reliable fan is created and manufactured.
If metallic materials are no longer sufficient, highly resistant coatings (e.g. Halar) are used or the cover can be made of resistant special plastics.
The static and dynamic seals are also selected to meet the requirements of high resistance or tightness.
Typical applications are:
Feed fan for gas engine/generator.
The biogas is used to drive the gas engine / CHP unit. This generates heat or electrical energy, which is then fed into the local district heating or electricity grid.
The biogas fan is used to increase the gas pressure in the system and to compensate for losses, which ensures operational reliability.
Feed fan for torch in biogas production.
During biogas production, the plant operator sometimes needs to burn certain parts of the biogas so that it is not released, for this the so-called torches.
We supply a fan that is adapted to provide a stable pressure and thus a clean and safe combustion of the biogas at the burner.
Support air fan for biogas tanks.
Auxiliary air fans are used for biogas tanks with double membranes.
A continuously running supply air fan transports air into the space between a membrane in the gas storage tank and thus keeps the pressure constant, regardless of gas filling and gas withdrawal. This constant pressure without pressure drop can only be achieved with a very flat fan curve.
