Description
What is a sealed fan?
Safe transport of explosive, highly corrosive, toxic or harmful substances is important in many processes and it is often extremely important to prevent these substances from escaping into the environment.
Here, FläktComp Sweden can contribute with high-quality fans that ensure that the gas is handled correctly and safely over time.
We have extensive experience in supplying gas-tight fans in various designs for a variety of applications. Sealed fans have fan housings that can withstand large pressure differences and are equipped with high-quality shaft seals that prevent gas leakage.
Often more demands are placed on the fan than just gas tightness. It is not uncommon for aggressive gases to be transported, which is why we also have extensive experience in offering special materials or advanced surface treatment methods for fan housings and impellers.
In order to choose the right gas-tight fan, one should start from operating data and process design, as well as whether there are any special requirements.

Where are sealed fans used?
Sealed fans are, just as the name suggests, a collective name for the fans used in areas where it is extremely important that no gas leaks out of the process, such as e.g. in operation in ATEX zones or in processes with substances harmful to health.
The fans have different areas of use, but all need to cope with the tough requirements set for the application.
Some examples of areas of use for sealed fans are:
- Transport of aggressive gases
- Fan for biogas production.
- Transport of gases in protected environments
Depending on requirements, the design of the gas-tight fans can be completely adapted to the customer’s needs. With the right dimensioning and material selection, a sealed fan works problem-free for many years.

About our gas-tight fans
We have long experience of working with gas-tight fans and there are different levels of gas tightness. Often a 100% gas-tight fan is neither necessary nor economically justifiable. Contact us and we will help you find a design that is suitable for your particular application.
Meidinger has extensive experience in handling aggressive gases and vapors.
By choosing suitable materials for the fan housing, impeller and welding material, a durable and safe combination is determined and implemented, taking into account the required strength values (high alloy steels, titanium, corrosion resistant nickel-based alloys, etc. .).
When metallic materials are no longer sufficient, highly resistant coatings (for example Halar) are applied or the fan housing is made of durable special plastic.
The static as well as dynamic shaft seals are selected according to the requirements for high resistance or tightness.
Dust-laden gases or the transport of solids in the gas stream place special demands on the durability of the materials. The required resistance can be achieved by additional coatings, e.g. in the area of the inflow or through replaceable wear plates in the housing.
